Interstate

Crossing into a new county
A new country marked by strange houses and blurry people
Blurred and blurring, passing by
And not existing two red lights later
She had a silly dream
A dream of new pillows
Something surely attainable
And this rest was fat with promises
She had a silly dream
And I promised her new pillows
Traveling light through the dark of night
Carrying every unspoken regret, another life left behind
Behind but gaining, together
We’re headed for some kind of end and that end we’ll call “home”
She had a silly dream
A dream of new pillows
Something nearly containable
And this rest was bursting with promises
She had a silly dream
She believes
She needs to believe
Things’ll be better
Somewhere else
Tonight I’ll do the driving
Blind trust, I shut my eyes
Shut my eyes and drive
Dreaming of new pillows
