Memories of the Great Frog Rain of ‘48
We met in the frog rain
You found me under that cloud of absurdity
I found you under that shroud of insecurity
And no one had an umbrella (but me)
We met in the frog rain
It was the start of such a good thing
It was a day of tricky footing
The sky was falling and soaking
Tumbling, plummeting, scared and confused
Green and slick and Heaven-sent
Our love began with such an event
Though the storm didn’t seem too amused
It’s good to be back on Memory Lane
Where the sidewalks and streets are permanently stained
With small dark splotches of all that remained
Of that ever-so blessed, unbelievable rain
We met in the frog rain
Do you remember our faces?
Colliding on the walk in our shelter races
You blushed at me, a lucky fella
We fell in love under the frog rain
Their tiny, startled belches filled the air
The street was squirming but I just stared
Love was calling and croaking
I’ll never forget that amphibian downpour
The day that led to our engagement
Tiny green bodies hitting the pavement
And what simple fool could ask for more?
It’s good to be back on Memory Lane
Where the sidewalks and streets are permanently stained
With small dark splotches of all that remained
Of that ever-so blessed, unbelievable rain
