Only Horizon

Joy discarded and choices abandoned

A box of windows to hold the sky

Blue clouds found us walking

And followed us to the end

Some days she smiles with conviction

Born of genuine untroubled feeling

Trusting the cradle of the moment rocking

Gently lifting skyward scraping

Against the stucco ceiling

We bleed, torn around the edges,

From scabs of yesterday’s dreams and ledges

Invite us to enjoy the view

Some days I appreciate the perspective of you

Joy discarded and hope distrusted

A box of windows to hold the sky

Blue fears froze us in place

And swallowed us in the end

Some days the miles don’t equal the distance

And the line that’s crossed will leave you reeling

Meanwhile she knows it and she knows you know it

Counting moments counting all we own

And what we were only stealing

Moving past and future left behind

Those love song prophets are discovered blind

Forced to admit sadly it’s true

There was no Heaven for me and you

Only horizon
